2. Kew Mae Pan

A nature trail located in Doi Inthanon National Park arguably the most beautiful cloud forest in Thailand. The total length of 2.8km that will take around 1.5 to 2 hrs to complete

There were 15 highlights such as LanSaDet waterfall, Epiphytes, Dynamic forest, Vines, Sub-Alpine Meadow, Panoramic view, Rhododendron, Nature voice, and Tall but easily fall forest

Kew Mae Pan (กิ่วแม่ปาน) opens to tourists only specific period normally in Nov-May. The trek is easy to walk, there is a wooden stair mixed with nature path that has fence along the way as you will walk on the cliff of the mountain

3. Two Chedi

Pra Mahatat Noppamethanedon and Pra Mahatat Nopphonphusiri located 3km before reaching the summit of Doi Inthanon. The twin stupas were built by the Royal Thai Air Force to commemorate the king Rama 9 and the queen of Thailand

 

Phra Maha Stupa Chedi is located on the highest land in Thailand. The big stupa that has Buddha image inside, built with the delicate design showing the principle of Dharma. The stupas surrounded by the beautiful flower gardens and valley mountains view

 

The parking lot is located between two chedi and Kew Mae Pan, drive 450m further in the Northside, shuttle bus is also available for transfer

4. Wachirathan Waterfall

A large and stunning waterfall named as one of the most beautiful waterfall in Thailand and known by locals as Tad Khong Yong (ตาดฆ้องโยง) located in Doi Inthanon National Park

 

A huge water stream flowing from the cliff to the basin is a beautiful thing to watch and the water here is running high all year round!

 

The unmissable stop that located on the way up to Doi Inthanon, easily access from the main road. The lush greenery forest that surround Wachirathan Waterfall (น้ำตกวชิรธาร). The waterfall has only one level in a height around 70m

 

Tips: here is a cafe and restaurants that allow you to rest and relax in the area and please beware of the wet and slippery stone floor

5. Pa Pong Piang

One of he majestic rice terrace view in Thailand that always packed with travelers, especially in rainy season. The place is quite hard to reach, but well worth putting it on your Doi Inthanon travel guide list

Best Time To Visit:

Jul-Aug: Intense green rice field – start farming

Sep-Oct: The peak season, fertile green rice field

Nov: Golden yellow rice field that ready to harvest

Pa Pong Piang (ป่าบงเปียง) is a home of Karen Hill Tribe. The largest ethic minority group in Thailand that originated from Tibet to south of Myanmar and to Thailand. They usually wear woven V-neck tunics and sarongs, strong mahout-skilled as they have a long standing history of working with elephants

6. Mae Ya Waterfall

The largest and highest waterfall in Doi Inthanon national park that comprise of 30 levels in the height of 260m, arguably one of the most beautiful waterfall in Thailand

The water stream in rainy season is much more higher, the curtain waterfall will extend up to 100m (the water in dry season is much clearer and more pleasant to swim). We were amazed of how huge Mae Ya Waterfall (น้ำตกแม่ยะ) waterfall is.. literally in awe

  • The tent can be rented directly with the national park
  • Food and snacks available near the parking lot
  • You need to walk 600m from the parking lot to reach the waterfall
  • Swimming can be done safely on the lower level
  • The floor was quite slippery, so please be careful

7. Pha Chor

The most famous tourist attraction in Mae Wang National Park – named as the Grand Canyon of Thailand or Pha Chor (ผาช่อ)

Pha Chor (Pha = cliff) is a natural phenomena caused by an Earth’s plates uplift and by erosion of wind and rain. The 30 meters  brownish-yellow canyon stands beautifully contrast with the greenery trees and blue sky

You will need to take 500m walk from the parking lot to the viewpoint (the path were mostly soil). Wear a suitable clothes, shoes and stay hydrate! as it will be very hot during the day. Plan a trip to visit there in the morning is the most recommended

8. Pha Dok Siew Waterfall

A nature trail total distance of 2.6 km that will take around 2.5 hrs to complete. The path start with the steep hills, beautiful waterfall, and traditional cultivated fields

The local guide is well-educated and know the area well, so it quite made the trek enjoyable as he interpreted all his experiences into a story

The path start with the ‘pine tree forest’ leads to a ‘marigold greenhouse’ down the hill.

We trekked along the river stream to reach a magnificent waterfall of Pha Dok Siew (น้ำตกผาดอกเสี้ยว) that remarked as the highlight of the trip! (swimming area located in the lower level of the waterfall)

We continued trekking up hill to see rice terrace that still remains one of the most important farming for local people here. The trail leads to coffee bean farming forest.

How To Visit Doi Inthanon

We rented a car from Chiang Mai City to Doi Inthanon, it took around 2hrs drive (105km). Car Rental will cost around 1kTHB per day (excluded gas) – the price will range by car model and engine

 

The road is well-paved and easy to drive, a bit of turns and slope on the way up to Doi Inthanon, so be careful. If you have insufficient driving experience or not confident in driving a mountain road, please consider to take another form of transportation
