5. Ban Den Temple

Wat Ban Den (วัดบ้านเด่น) or Wat Bandensali Si Mueang Kaen (วัดเด่นสะหลีศรีเมืองแกน) was built in the richness of Lanna culture speaking as one of the remarkable temples in Chiang Mai

It’s a lot to take-in. The temple is huge and every corner of the building has their own unique detail. It’s a bit overwhelming, maybe from the continuous construction and renovating since 1804 by a former abbot – Kruba Thueang Natsilo

The intention of renovating also included to make the place that people can find their peace of mind rather than a venue for religious rituals. The temple is worth visiting, stands beautifully on the small hill surrounded by the prime landscape of Inthakin village

6. White Water Rafting

White water rafting (ล่องแก่ง) in Mae Taeng River stands out on top of the list as one of the best place for rafting in Thailand. We went there not long after the heavy rainfall season, the water was quite a bit aggressive and for that offered us a great fun!

It’s our first ever white water rafting. We were scared at first but after one or two bump we just forget all of that fear and start to enjoy the ride, the guide also lets us swim on some part along the river as we managed not to fall from the raft

Rafting is one of the most popular outdoor activity in Mae Taeng. Please keep the safety in mind, re-check all your safety equipments and avoid monsoon season (Jul to Oct), the flooding and high water stream is quite dangerous

(Price: 5km for 450THB/person 45mins, 10km for 1400THB/person 1.5hrs)

7. Driving ATV

Doi Pah Saam Liam (ดอยผาสามเหลี่ยม) located in Huay Kub Kab, Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai. We started trekking around 5AM, total distance of 1.7km that will take around one hour in order to see the sunrise at the summit in the elevation 1388m above the sea level

The hill considerably very steep especially on the way up to the top. The view up there covered by clouds almost 80% that allow us to see only a glimpse of mountains when the wind blows the clouds away. My friend slide through the forest on the way down as it was quite steep and hard to get balance. Good fun!

From Huay Kub Kab village (หมู่บ้านห้วยกุ๊บกั๊บ) located 10km away from trekking starting point. You can walk or hire transfer service from the homestay. The road was pretty much bumpy literally wake me up from the sleepy

9. Off Road & Waterfall

Highlight : Off road, Waterfalls, Cluttered forest, Picnic

We went on some adventure after trekking with Ban Fai Homestay owner. They took us to a rough terrain road into the middle of the jungle, walking through the river and find a spot to lay the mattress for picnic by the waterfall

The host cook us some food using bamboo tube, we brought homemade local Umeshu to savor the meal. We explored the area walking through a cluttered forest to reach a bigger waterfall that located in the inner part of the jungle

Seeing the area landscape and I really wish they had ATV service. It must be really fun to get our feet dirty around here!

How To Visit Mae Taeng

We rented a car from Chiang Mai city to Mae Taeng, it will take around one hour drive (65km). A car rental will cost approximately 1kTHB per day excluded gas

The main road to Mae Taeng was pretty much easy to drive, but the small mountain road in Mae Taeng full of sharp turns and slope, plus the damaged from heavy rainfall was a bit scary. Experienced driver is needed behind the wheel

Other transfer service also available from bus, minivan, or one/multi day-trip

Ban Fai Homestay

Ban Fai Homestay (บ้านฝ้ายโฮมสเตย์ ห้วยกุ๊บกั๊บ) located in Mae Tang (Ban Huay Kub Kab) up in the mountain. The place was quite remote, we parked the car down the hill and used homestay transfer service as the road not yet developed full of rough terrains

Taste the full authentic experience with locals. The homestay was pretty much clean, located just by the cliff on Westside. We spent the afternoon chliing in hammock and watched the sun slowly goes down behind the mountains

Thai Northen local food served with Khantoke (wooden utensil in northern Thailand) savor our meal with local homemade Umeshu. Turning off the light, light up bonfire, lay down watching the stars in the sky. Welcome cool morning breeze, clouds floating through the mountain in front our homestay
